Who We Are

We are a Catholic organization, with staff who understand, respect and value your ministry. Our staff includes licensed professionals who work primarily with Catholic clergy and men and women religious, and who take a holistic, psychological/spiritual approach to therapy, healing and recovery.

Our Expertise

We can work with you on short-term issues, or longer, more complex concerns. Examples include anxiety and stress management; addictions and recovery; anger management; burnout; childhood abuse and adult trauma; depression and other mood disordes; grief and loss; integration of spirituality, human sexuality and mental health; and relationships and boundaries.

Caritas Counseling Locations

Therapy for clergy and religious is available in Silver Spring and Baltimore, MD through Caritas Counseling and in Louisville, Kentucky through the Saint Luke Center.

Types of Counseling

Caritas Counseling offers clergy and religious two types of counseling, depending on need and interest

Individual therapy and counseling

Weekly one-hour session to explore your needs with a qualified therapist, and receive support, feedback and recovery skills. Helpful for a range of mental health concerns, from short-term needs to more intense and complex struggles.

Group psychotherapy

Small group session of 1-1/2 hours facilitated by a therapist. This is a particularly effective and supportive environment for making behavioral changes.

Beyond Therapy

Other programs available through our Caritas Counseling centers include candidate assessments for applicants to the priesthood, religious life or permanent diaconate; and education and workshops.
