2011 Saint Luke Award: Honoring Jane Belford

Jane G. Belford, Esq., the first woman to be named chancellor of the Archdiocese of Washington, received the Saint Luke Award during the 2011 Annual Benefit. 

Each year, Saint Luke Institute honors an individual whose professional life or charitable works embodies the ideals of the Institute: the rebuilding of the spiritual, physical, emotional and intellectual life of clergy and men and women religious.

She has worked on behalf  of many charitable organizations including Archdiocesan Legal Network of Catholic Charities; Catholic Legal Immigration Network, Inc. (CLINIC); Christ Child Society; Jesuit Volunteers International; John Carroll Society; and Support Our Aging Religious, Inc. (SOAR). Mrs. Belford is a Dame of Malta and served on the Board of Directors of the Federal Association of the Order of Malta. She currently serves on the Board of Trustees of Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart and Mater Dei School.

In recognition of Mrs. Belford’s service to the Church and commitment to the mission of the Archdiocese of Washington, Pope Benedict XVI granted her the Papal Honor of Dame of the Order of St. Gregory. She was also awarded the Benemerenti Medal for outstanding and meritorious service to the Holy See.
