Good Samaritan Fraternity
Helping Brother Priests in Need
In St. Luke’s rendition of the parable of the Good Samaritan he describes the notable characters and instills in us a challenging call to action in charity:
“A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he fell into the hands of robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him and went away, leaving him half dead. A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side. So too, a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him. He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, took him to an inn and took care of him. The next day he took out two silver coins and gave them to the innkeeper. ‘Look after him,’ he said. ‘and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have.’
“Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?" The expert in the law replied, “The one who had mercy on him.” Jesus told him, “Go and do likewise.” (Luke 10:30-37)
“Go and do likewise!” When we hear this parable, we, too, desire to be the Good Samaritan.
But what about those times when, preoccupied with other things and captive to schedules and agendas, or just tired and not wanting to be bothered, we become the priest who “saw the man and passed by on the other side”? Do you ever wonder if that priest ever turned around, ever looked back … and if he regretted his decision?
Our brother priests at Saint Luke Institute need our help and compassion. Are you willing to become a Good Samaritan to a brother priest in need?
A Good Samaritan Fraternity is being formed to enlist the prayerful and financial support of brother priests throughout the country for the healing ministry at Saint Luke Institute.
Joining is simple. All we ask is:
- One hour (or more) per week of prayer
The Samaritan asked the innkeeper to look after him... (Luke 10:35)
- $25 or more tithe per month
The Samaritan took out two silver coins and gave them to the innkeeper (Luke 10:35)
Simply complete this form and remember your brother priests in prayer to become a part of the Good Samaritan Fraternity. On behalf of your brother priests, thank you.
