ur
priests and women and men religious come to us with a wide range
of difficulties and mental health issues: depression, anxiety, personality
disorders, compulsive behaviors, alcoholism, drug abuse, cybersex
addictions, sexual disorders, and relational problems. At any given
moment in time, we serve as many as 60 people in residence, with
at least as great a number receiving treatment as outpatients. More
than 80 percent of our clients return to an appropriate active ministry,
where their gifts are available to a wider community.
While most of our clients come from Catholic religious
orders and dioceses in the United States, we also serve people from
other countries
and other faiths.

Many clients are effusive in their praise
of the healing ministry of Saint Luke. Some direct quotes are:
“I owe my life to
Saint Luke Institute. It was my fifth treatment center, and so
far, 21 years later, I am happily
sober.”
“Saint
Luke’s gave me a new life. Before I came here, God and
I had a bargain: I wouldn’t bother him as long as he didn’t
bother me. I did a pretty good job with my part of the bargain,
but I’m happy God didn’t keep his…I can see now
that God bothered about me by bringing me here. And for this I
can only
say, “Deo Gratias!”
“SLI in one way or another has been Jesus in
the flesh for me. Some days it may have been the residents, other
days the staff, other
days the liturgy, still other days the familiar routine; but I
think we’ve all experienced God’s presence here. Some
days it has been a consoling presence, other days a challenging presence.”
“I talk about Saint Luke’s with a great love and passion. I
am alive today because of all who make up Saint Luke’s. Staff
and residents had so much faith and hope in me and showed me such
love, care and compassion in the darkest times of my struggle.”
From a good friend of one
of our clients: “Father, you are
truly a good priest. I do not know why you are at Saint Luke’s,
but I believe that after you leave there, you will be needed by
many who are wounded. You will become a wounded healer for God.”
“I feel like I am
ready to be a priest for the first time.”
“Saint Luke Institute
saved my life.”
